The Swedish Academy (a bit like Armadale Academy, but in Sweden) has decided that 87 year old Doris Lessing has won the Nobel Prize in Literature. At 87, she is the oldest person ever to win, and only the eleventh woman since it was first awarded in 1901.
I’ve never even heard of her, but I think it’s nice she won. She’s been writing novels for 57 years and it must feel pretty good to finally get the big one!
According to AFP…
“This has been going on for 30 years,” said Lessing, who put down her shopping bag and sat on her doorstep, head in her hand, after reporters gave her the news.
“I’ve won all the prizes in Europe, every bloody one, so I’m delighted to win them all. It’s a royal flush,”
I still have 59 years left to win mine…
