Scotland – Argentena

It’s Scotland versus Argentina tonight and the world’s focus is on the game as it is the first time that Diego Maradona will manage the Argentinean side.

A lot of the pre-match hullabaloo is centered on the Scotland assistant manager Terry Butcher snubbing Diego because of the famous hand of God goal he scored against Butcher and England back in the 80’s.

In my opinion Terry Butcher isn’t fit to lace Diego’s boots, never mind shake his hand.

Of course, it’s all been blown up by the press and he probably didn’t say that, but two things annoy me. Firstly, Butcher gave a press conference and he started out by saying that Scotland would need two squads of players to stand any chance against Argentina and he spent half the interview saying we will be lucky not to get pummelled. That’s not the attitude I want to hear. I want to hear that we are gonnae give them a damn good thrashing, old boy!

Secondly, he spent the other half of the interview talking about his England career and how he was cheated by Maradona and that he was telling the Scotland players all about this. Dry your eyes, Terry and save it for the EBC! We don’t want to hear about something that happened to a different team, 20 years ago, you’re meant to be speaking for Scotland now…

Heard that McFadden stood up in the middle of Butcher’s team talk and said “Aye, but we all love Maradona”.

There was shades of a handball though…

Don’t know what you mean Gary. That looked a perfectly good goal to me :)

I hope that’s true about McFadden as thats exaclty the sort of thing he should be saying.
