Fitness Goal 2011: Status after 2 weeks

It’s now exactly 2 weeks since I started on my goal to run a half marathon in under 1h30mins (Neil and I were looking at some results from various half marathons last night and saw that this time in general puts you in the top 10% of competitors).

My first step was a change in diet, which is meant to get rid of the excess fat I have been walking around with (or as Neil calls it, a camel front).

To re-cap, since last-last-Tuesday, I have removed sugar from my diet 6 days a week, and have reduced the amount of potatoes, rice and bread and replaced those with legumes, beans and meat and fish and eggs.

Also, for the first time in a very long time, I have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner every day instead of skipping over them by using coffee or sweets instead. (still drinking lots of coffee though).

Over this period I have done no exercise except for the usual amount of walking that a person without a car does.

THE RESULTS AFTER 14 DAYS

I started on the Tuesday and by the Thursday, I was nearly dead.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday was just a serious withdrawal phase. I was so tired it was unbelievable. But it got better and better and I have to say that this second week, I have felt great. I’m not getting the sugar rush/crash cycle and feel I have more energy and more awake than before.

Food wise, I am eating bigger portions, I am hungry when it comes to meal times and the food that I am eating is more tasty. (Eating a big breakfast of eggs etc is a bit tough due to time scales etc. though).

Having weighed myself after getting out of bed:
Day 1: 81.9Kg
After 2 Weeks: 78.9Kg
(3Kg reduction plus a 3cm reduction in belly girth).

This is heading in the right direction and at a reasonable pace, given that I am not actually trying to reduce the amount of food I eat and the changes I’ve made haven’t really been so drastic except for the sugar ban. I will stick to this for the next 3 weeks and then start to re-introduce some breads and potatoes back in.

Next: Start training!!!!!
