Acadia Running

After my mornings hiking in Acadia, I wanted to go for a bit of a run as the park is criss-crossed by hundreds of miles of carriage roads from the horse and cart days and you can’t access them with a car.

I planned a route that would take me around two of the main lakes and if I was feeling knackered half way round would let me take a short-cut back to the parking place. If I managed to do the whole thing, then it would be my first US half marathon distance run.

It started off well, but about 5Km into the run, at the west side of Jordon Pond, I started on a gradual ascent that was basically unbroken for the next 7Km. This was tiring, but the views and the environment around the lakes was well worth it.

I decided to press on and after 18Km I was back at the car park. I was completely knackered and sat down beside the car and rested. However after 2 minutes resting, I started to think “it’s now or never!” for my US half marathon, so got to my feet and ran the length of Bubble Pond and back to make it to 21Km just as the last of the light was fading…
