But plenty of snow here.
I saw this picture on the BBC website (taken by Paul S.) of the Devils Point in the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland.
It reminded me of something that my family always tease me about.
15-ish years ago me and my Dad and brother were walking the Lairig Ghru and when we passed by this mountain, we decided we should climb up it. After coming down I was trailing behind a couple of hundred yards when I saw this nice soft looking area of green moss. Looked really springy, so I took a run and jump… and ended up to my belly button in a peat bog.
At this point you would imagine my concerned relatives to rush to my assistance. Unless you know my family, in which case you would correctly imagine them to spend the next 5 minutes rolling around laughing while I fish myself out the bog.
Only Sam the dog came to help me in a Lassie type rescue. Anyway, I like to think he was coming to help, probably just coming closer to have a good laugh.
You can still just about see the illuminous green bit poking through the snow ….. down there ….. beside the bridge. Yes, I remember you being on good form that day!
I have no idea what a peat bog is, but I am assuming it is something that someone is not supposed to be found in!
Do you know Pete Burns?
Damn, that joke doesn’t work when you type it down…
What a wimp, 25 miles of a dawdle walking through nice scenery, even on a beautiful day.
Seem to recall a lot of moaning from the youngster and threatening to never come walking with us again.
Next thing you know he’s suggesting his old dad climbs Kebnakaizie in his 60’s.
I suspect a revenge motive was at work there.!!!!!
No peat bogs up Kebnekaise.
Just the odd glacier and 1000 foot drop…
I seem to recall risking life and limb trying to seek out that very rare botanical specimen “the great Scottish peat bog Lilly” when Gary and I were up fishing Loch Hope.
There it was growing in a bog near the shores of Loch Eriboll. I managed to just get my hands on it as I slowly disappeared from the waste down, being sucked in by the wilds of Sutherland.
Did Gary rush to the rescue of myself or the this rare botanical specimen, or did he just laugh.
The jury is out!!!!!
Guilty as charged…
And I would do the same again if I got the chance!
Note to self: Never go hiking with Gary…. *cough cough
Panagiotis, you are a wise man!!!!!
