Just saw a good program on SVT that I would recommend watching online (if you can understand Swedish).
It was about how Cod caught in the Baltic Sea and landed in a Swedish harbour has no market in Sweden as people won’t buy it as it doesn’t have a green stamp from the WWF as being environmentally friendly. Instead of being sold in the local shops, it is transported by truck to the west coast of France, where they don’t give a frog’s-leg whether or not it is environmentally friendly.
Not to be outdone, the Swedish then truck environmentally friendly stamped cod 900Km from the north west of Norway to the shops of the Swedish fishing port where the local fish can’t be sold.
Crazy! They should both buy from Peterhead instead.
I would like to say that i’m surprised by that but it just goes to show how regulations are sometimes not worth the paper they are written on!!
